About the role
About us
We're a US-headquartered company with a growing team in Islamabad, working with venture-backed businesses in the US and Europe. The people who use what we build are mostly in the US, and they judge us by what they see on a screen before they ever talk to us.
Why this role exists
There is no design function here yet. No design system, no process, no design team to join. You'd be the first.
We're hiring a designer who can build that from the ground up: how design work comes in, how it gets prioritized, how it's reviewed, how it reaches developers, and how we know it worked. Then you'll do the work itself, across web, mobile and internal products, for audiences that range from busy executives to everyday US consumers.
You'll be accountable for what changes because of your work, not just for the Figma file.
What you'll build
We're deliberately not handing you a task list. Part of the job is working out what the list should be. Broadly, you'll be responsible for:
The design function itself. How requests come in, how you prioritize them, and how design fits with product, marketing, web and engineering.
Design systems. Components, tokens, type, color and spacing, documented well enough that developers build from them without guessing and a future designer picks them up in a week.
A process from idea to launch. Research, sketches, prototypes, reviews, handoff and a check after launch to see what actually changed.
The work. Product interfaces, websites, landing pages and the material our teams put in front of customers.
A habit of talking to users. A lightweight way to get real feedback regularly, not once a quarter.
What comes next. As the work grows, you'll shape which tools, freelancers or hires design needs.
What you've done
3+ years designing web and mobile products that real users use, with at least one taken from early concept to live release
Set up or significantly improved a design process, library or system that other people relied on
Designed both a user-facing experience and the admin, dashboard or back-office view behind it
Worked directly with engineers and shipped what you designed, then went back and fixed what didn't work
Designed for US users, or for a product company or startup selling outside Pakistan
Handled several projects at once and made the call on what mattered most
Skills we need
Figma, properly: auto layout, components, variants, variables and a file structure someone else can open and understand
UX fundamentals: user flows, information architecture, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and knowing which one a problem needs
Visual design: type, grids, spacing, color and hierarchy. Your work looks considered even when it's simple.
Mobile-first and responsive design: you design for the small screen first and know iOS and Android patterns
Accessibility: contrast, tap targets, readable type and WCAG 2.2 AA as a baseline
Research: running a usability test with five people and turning it into decisions, not a 40-slide report
Data: reading GA4, heatmaps and session recordings (Microsoft Clarity, Hotjar or similar) to see where people struggle
Handoff: specs, states and notes developers build from without a follow-up meeting. You understand enough HTML and CSS to know what's easy and what's expensive.
Systems thinking: you document how things work so the function doesn't live only in your head
Writing: clear interface copy, and clear written English for explaining design decisions to US stakeholders
Nice to have
Prototyping with AI tools such as Claude, Cursor, v0 or Lovable to test ideas before they reach Figma
Webflow or Framer
Motion and micro-interactions
Two-sided marketplace or data-heavy B2B dashboard experience
Brand work: logos, illustration, presentation design
