Whimsical
Whimsical is a visual workspace for flowcharts, wireframes, mind maps and docs, for product teams and anyone who needs to map a process and share it.
Updated October 2026

Overview: What is Whimsical?
There's a free plan, and Pro costs $10 per editor per month billed annually (checked October 2026).
Boards and docs live side by side, so a flowchart can sit next to the spec it explains. Viewers and guests are free on every plan, which makes it easy to share a map with people outside the team. Whimsical also connects to AI tools: ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor can create diagrams and wireframes through its integrations and MCP server.
Fit: Ideal customer profile.
Product managers, designers, engineers and operations people who need to sketch a flow, a wireframe or a plan quickly and share it widely. It suits small teams and whole companies, since only editors pay. It isn't a full design tool or a sales tool; teams needing polished UI design pair it with Figma.

Start a board from a template or blank canvas, then add flowchart shapes, wireframe components, sticky notes or a mind map, and invite editors to work on it live. Share a link to view, comment or edit. Whimsical connects to Slack, Notion, Jira, Linear, GitHub, Google Docs and Obsidian for previews and embeds. Questions
Frequently asked.
Is Whimsical free?
Yes. The free plan has unlimited boards and members, but caps you at 50 board objects and 50 doc blocks a month, adds a watermark to exports and keeps 7 days of version history.
How much does Whimsical Pro cost?
Pro is $10 and Business $20 per editor per month, billed annually (checked October 2026). Viewers and guests are free on every plan.
Does Whimsical integrate with Notion and Slack?
Yes. You can embed live Whimsical boards in Notion, and Slack shows previews and comments from Whimsical files. It also connects to Jira, Linear, GitHub and Google Docs.
Is Whimsical secure enough for a large company?
Whimsical says it's SOC 2 Type 2 compliant and supports GDPR and CCPA requirements. SAML single sign-on, SCIM and private teams are on the Business plan.
What are Whimsical's limits?
The free plan's monthly object cap runs out fast on real work. It's built for quick diagrams and wireframes rather than polished design, so teams still need Figma for final UI. SSO and private teams need Business.
What are the alternatives to Whimsical?
Miro and FigJam are open-ended online whiteboards for brainstorming and planning. Lucidchart is a dedicated diagramming tool, and Notion is a docs, wiki and task workspace that embeds Whimsical boards.
