Overview: What is Tavus?

The developer API has a free plan, and paid plans start at $59 a month plus usage (checked October 2026).

Tavus started out as personalized video for outreach and now centers on its Conversational Video Interface (CVI): a live video agent, which Tavus calls a PAL, that sees, hears and answers in real time, remembers past conversations and can join Zoom, Google Meet or Teams calls. Its documented use cases include an AI SDR, a candidate interviewer, customer support and medical intake. A separate API still turns a script into a finished avatar video.

Fit: Ideal customer profile.

Teams with developers who want a face-to-face AI agent inside their own product, for support, onboarding or a sales demo, and who can manage usage costs and consent. It's not a tool a sales rep picks up to record prospecting videos: it's an API and a builder, billed by the minute.

Usage

How to use Tavus.

Create an agent in the no-code portal or through the API: pick a stock replica or train your own, set its persona, knowledge and guardrails, then start a conversation and embed the room in your app. The video runs over WebRTC on Daily, and React components are available for a custom interface. Legacy persona and replica endpoints still work. For one-way video, send a script or audio to the video generation API.

Questions

Frequently asked.

How much does Tavus cost?

The developer API has a free Basic plan, Starter at $59 a month and Growth at $397 a month, each with included minutes and per-minute overage, plus custom Enterprise pricing (checked October 2026).

Can Tavus still make personalized videos for outreach?

Its video generation API still turns a script and a replica into a finished video. The main product is now live conversational video agents, and there's no built-in sequencer or CRM sync for sending videos to prospects.

What does Tavus need to clone a person?

About two minutes of video of that person, plus their explicit consent. Tavus's acceptable-use rules also require you to tell end users they're talking to AI.

What are Tavus's limits?

Costs grow with minutes, idle rooms and concurrent sessions: one independent review notes billing starts when the replica is waiting in the room. It needs developers to set up well, and the agent's answers are only as reliable as the LLM behind it.

What are the alternatives to Tavus?

D-ID and Simli also offer real-time avatar agents, HeyGen and Synthesia focus on scripted avatar videos, and Sendspark is the choice for reps recording their own prospecting videos.
