Overview: What is Zoom?

The free Basic plan caps group meetings at 40 minutes, and Pro costs $16.99 per user per month, or $14.16 billed annually (checked October 2026).

Most people know Zoom for the meeting itself: video, audio, screen sharing, breakout rooms and recording. Zoom Workplace bundles that with team chat, whiteboards and Zoom's AI meeting assistant on paid plans, and sells Zoom Phone, Zoom Webinars and Zoom Rooms as add-ons. For a sales team it's where discovery calls and demos happen, with booking handled by a scheduler and notes pushed to the CRM through an integration.

Fit: Ideal customer profile.

Any team that meets on video, especially with people outside the company who may not have Microsoft Teams or Google Workspace. Teams already paying for Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace get meetings included there, so Zoom only makes sense if they want its meeting features or add-ons.

  • External video calls and demos
  • Internal meetings and chat
  • Webinars as an add-on

Questions

Frequently asked.

Is Zoom free?

Yes. The Basic plan is free and hosts up to 100 participants, but meetings with three or more people end at 40 minutes. Paid plans remove that cap.

How much does Zoom Pro cost?

Pro is $16.99 per user per month billed monthly, or $14.16 per user per month billed annually (checked October 2026).

Does Zoom integrate with Salesforce and HubSpot?

Yes. The Salesforce integration lets you schedule and start Zoom meetings with leads from within Salesforce, and HubSpot's Zoom integration logs meetings and syncs recordings and webinar data.

What are Zoom's limits?

The free plan's 40-minute cap rules it out for most business calls. Phone, webinars and room systems are separate add-ons, so total cost depends on what you add, and some reviewers find chat hard to follow in large meetings.

What are the alternatives to Zoom?

Microsoft Teams and Google Meet come with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, GoTo combines meetings with phone and contact center software, and Livestorm is built for webinars and virtual events.
